Case Study

NBA All-Star Week

Blue or red? Team Lebron or Team Giannis? We created a shop-in-shop retail experience that played off the duality and competition of NBA All-Star Week.

Client: Nike | Super Bowl LIX
Industry: Retail, Athletic Footwear & Apparel
Date: February 2025

THE CHALLENGE

After shipping all components to Chicago, we sent our installers to make sure every detail was perfectly in place. From start to finish, we had about a week to complete this project. The result was a memorable, experiential display that resulted in fun “Instagrammable” moments for Nike Factory Store customers.

Summary of Infinity Images Services

  • Project Management – From project kickoff through installation, our Nike project manager successfully tracked and communicated the production of all graphic elements, component timelines, and materials.
  • Design – Our design crew ideated an elevated team “locker room” feel with jersey display cases, specialty lighting, and built-in merchandising bars.
  • Engineering – In order to safely construct a free-standing display with lighting, our engineers considered the building codes, weight restrictions, electrical circuitry, and material limits.
  • Prepress – Prepress ensured all design files were properly formatted for large-format printing and cutting.
  • Printing – Each jersey display case featured a printed attribution.
  • Cutting – We cut the wood walls and acrylic museum box components with our CNC.
  • Fabrication – The acrylic jersey cases were welded together by our in-house fabrication team.
  • Finishing – Each tube light was hand-wrapped in red or blue translucent film.
  • Installation – Our 3M Certified installers built the retail display walls and anchored them to the ceiling for customer safety.
  • Fulfillment – We safely packaged the project components as flatly as possible to reduce shipping costs, and then crate shipped everything out to the installation site.

WHAT WE DID

If you’re a basketball fan, you know there is nothing like the excitement of an All-Star exhibition. It’s a weekend full of competition that pits the very best against the very best. We were thrilled at the opportunity to bring the spirit of the 2020 All-Star Weekend to life at the Nike Community Store in Chicago.

Our challenge was to create a space that transported customers into an alternate store experience while matching Nike's brand energy and aesthetics. We developed a design concept with a locker room feel but was elevated to look like a museum. The unique take impressed our client, and our engineering team got to work to make it all happen.

The Infinity Images team handled every detail of engineering and fabrication, from the black laminate flooring to the blue and red tube lighting. The white laminated wood structure that housed a host of All-Star gear was engineered to be structurally sound and safe for customers to walk through. Custom benches with leather-wrapped tops, clothing racks, acrylic museum cases, and shoe pedestals adorned the inside of the structure.
